EDF have to buy it or without another significant investor it will collapse within 12 months. It’s out of money. This subscription service is interesting, but would you enter into a credit agreement like a lease (credit check on file etc) and lock yourself into Pod Point and their flex service, where you’d never own the charger anyway. What do they do if you want a charger that works with intelligent Octopus or OVO charge anytime? Rip it off your wall? You never own the charger as far as I can see.

Just buy an OCPP charger that’s compatible with all the energy providers and stick it on your credit card. Ohme, Nexblue, Cord, all pumping out cheaper and more capable chargers.

Been rumoured internally there for months, surprised it hasn't happened sooner. It's good for the remaining employees, in my opinion the only way it could survive another 6 months of trading.

Some significant leadership changes incoming though i'd have thought. The business is hugely top heavy, another huge wave of cost saving and redundancy incoming as well.

Won't be joe Bloggs ordering online. It'll be corporates on 30 days payment terms that they've invoiced incorrectly and they've refused to pay. Absolute disaster.

Invested, sold out and lost a bit, yes. That's investing, you win some you lose some. Certainly not 'angry', just applying my understanding of this market to give an overview.

Octopus are the largest electric supplier in the UK now, and EV drivers want smart tariffs and an integrated charger. A Pod Point isn't one of those, but an Ohme, Hypervolt or Cord EV charger plus many others are.

The Powering Up strategy seems to have fizzled out and did have some hope. Oddly the capital markets event announced excitedly that the new Solo 3 S product was indeed OCPP compatible. Well, the hardware is as its a requirement to launch in EU markets, reality is in the UK its blocked so isn't really OCPP compatible at all.

As it stands all I can see is a company paying its employees a fortune while its bleeding cash and with no innovations and a growing competitive market of better products.

That said, I hope they do turn things around and succeed. But time's ticking.

It’s become the Blackberry of home chargers. Lack of OCPP, no integration with smart tariffs like Octopus Intelligent, or OVO charge anytime.

Locked into its own back office system that’s out dated and you can’t use the chargers on 3rd party apps such as Fuuse and Monta.

Hedging the whole company on EDF flex tariffs and the additional revenue that would create, but Octopus and Kraken hold pretty much all the cards.

Unless there is a huge announcement that blows the market wide open, its on a saline drip of EDF funds because its run out of money, and if EDF did pull the plug it’s a dead company.

Panama Pete is an opportunist ramper. Be aware. EV charging market is flooded with better products than Pod Point.

Shame your car probably cost over £50k. A small 1000lb EV car battery takes 500,000 tones of ore to get at the metals required. Really green. And the second hand value of your Tesla is what - SFA. And as for charging, you don't get domestic rates at services, just a queue of bored holiday makers anxious to get on their journey.

What a great initiative! Target a group with the lowest possible amount of electric vehicle owners in it. Electric cars are not good for towing and the majority of its members will have to stick to diesel. Laughable.

And its a poor product in a highly competitive market. Buy a Pod Point now, its locked onto their back office. So if they go under its a plug socket you have to try and control via the car. OCPP protocal is built into the hardware but blocked.

Also, Ohme and others are API free into OVO, Octopus so you get the best flex tariff access, something that the Pod Point isn't. I hope it comes good but unless there is a serious change of direction its in a death spiral.

Can EDF, a company known for commercial energy rather than domestic pull off a tariff to rival Octopus who built the Kraken software which most energy providers now pay to use under license? Not so sure. But fingers crossed. So many more better products in the home segment now than the current home charger here.

A huge announcement of Solo 4, open API'd into all flex tariffs to give consumers choice, backed by an industry leading EDF tariff that also offers a huge discount on the charger without putting the money on the standing charge would work. But its all eggs in one basket. Risky.

I've read them, they will need to dip into that EDF credit facility pretty soon.

EDF Buying it out. Looks like the news has leaked. Its all it can be, burning cash at an alarming rate and underperforming financially, no reason for such a rise other than a buy out. EDF have a £30 mill credit facility available to Pod Point as per capital markets event. Why not just take it private and integrate it.

Agree 100%. I like the Powering Up transformation plan, the move into EU markets, the closer working relationship with EDF and potential API into energy tariff via the Pod Point App, the adoption of OCPP and OCPI. Investment in Grid tech. This should be the bottom, hopefully the only way is up and people investing at this level will see significant gains in the next 2-3 years.
