Spk - Fair enough, I can see how a day-trader looks at other things unrelated to the business itself (as that then becomes largely irrelevant of course) but I’m not one. I’m basically a LTH though that includes swing trading within that.
On why MMs are stifling trade I guess that’s where we differ as my starting point is that they are NOT stifling trade - it kills their own revenue. In my view it is simply a stock at the moment that there is not a lot of interest in and MMs seem pretty powerless to create it when it just doesn’t exist. They could of course try by increasing or decreasing stock sharply in price but the big risk for them is that they either end up with too much unwanted stock themselves (if go high) which they then have to sell at a loss or it dries up trade even further (if they go low) as no-one is willing to sell to them at such low prices - as you can tell, I’m not a great believer in the ‘tree-shake’ theory.
“There's no market being created Hexam that's the point.”
Why are they shooting themselves in the foot? It would be like BOOHOO stopping all marketing spend or doing anything else knowingly and deliberately to reduce sales (unless for the benefit of profitability such as small price increases perhaps or charging for returns).
I buy shares on whether I think they present value based on the quality and/or potential of the business versus its current price - not some psychobabble about what MMs may or may not be up to. So if (big if) they are playing such games then I wouldn’t be fooled by them and in it fact it would increase my chances of buying as it moves more into what I consider bargain territory.
It seems then that you are not one of the ones averaging down/topping up at these low prices. Oddly enough - I was :-)
I also never, ever look at volume. Irrelevant as far as I’m concerned other than to show relative interest or apathy in a stock. If there is any news/rumour of news then interest will rise sharply and so will volumes - regardless of that being good news (which will drive the price up) or bad news (which will drive the price down).
Why MMs would hold a price down anyway to kill volume seems strange to me as volume is mainly what drives their income.
“I just hope that IF QBT comes off .... you and a few others will be prepared to eat the proverbial humble pie”.
I certainly will. And to be clear I am not and would not ridicule anybody for simply being invested in a stock, let alone QBT where I’m invested myself. Any investment is subjective, done for different reasons and can turn out to be successful or not.
It’s the ludricous comments that some make about that choice which I struggle with. However, taking all your comments, particularly today, I think I understand more now why you say some of the things you do and believe you are not deliberately trying to mislead. Instead I just feel sorry for you now and guilty for giving you a rough time so I’ll leave it at that.
“and re fleccys comment , if we're gonna split hairs on it , then his comment of 'less chance than the toss of a coin' or similar, technically means 49% and under ... well he then went onto say less than 10% .... so he clearly doe need to make his mind up ... its either less than 49% or less than 10% ... big difference”
Only just noticed you wrote this. Seriously? I mean seriously?? I’m quite speechless actually.
Chip - I think you have it mixed up. GSA will need to BUY back the shares they’ve already sold to close their short. They have borrowed the shares off other holders to short this originally (ie to sell shares they don’t actually own). Whether those shareholders know that their shares have been loaned out is unclear - probably not if they smaller, individual investors.
I’m a shareholder so think it is ‘my business’ actually and your own statements are your undoing - no ridicule needed - like the latest ones of claiming Fleccy said this was a coin toss when he clearly did not and saying that those being critical are topping-up - which makes no sense, is not true (at least of me) and is yet another one of your fantasy accusations which you state as fact.
T4G - You really are desperate for a fight aren’t you?
Loads of posters on this board repeat the same or similar opinions/points - including DTN and, even more so, you. Only one though regurgitates entire/partial posts from other posters dozens and dozens and dozens of times. That was my point. If you misunderstood it then fine. If you think it’s the same as what DTN, you and others do then also fine but I’m not interested in going down yet another rabbit-hole of your making.
Results next week, and that will be something much more useful to discuss.
Congratulations Mr SCB!!
You are the first member to repost the same post a hundred times!! Your prize for an achievement of startling lack of originality, dogged persistency and mind numbing repetitiveness is a week in the Caribbean and a grossly overpriced watch of your choice.
Please contact LSE to claim your winnings and we look forward to celebrating your 200th copy and paste with even bigger rewards!!!
“The peace and quiet are very welcome!”
Indeed, but there really is nothing more to be said. Both sides have made their points repeatedly and are entrenched in their respective positions - nothing said by either camp will change the view of the other one so why bother?
Until there is hard news it’s just a pointless see-saw of the same tired posts trying to claim the moral high ground.
We’ve all made up our minds already one way or the other so I think it’s just a case of wait and see now for the next meaningful RNS and hopefully it will be a bit less vague than the previous ones - for good or bad.
