Delta Electronics (2308), a major power supply manufacturer, continues to explore net-zero carbon reduction opportunities and has now achieved new results in the fields of energy saving and hydrogen energy. In addition to exporting its smart ice machine energy-saving solutions to domestic semiconductor manufacturers, it has also signed a technology transfer contract with Ceres, a British fuel cell power generation and water electrolysis hydrogen production technology company, to enter the market.
Delta Electronics' automation business, along with its power supply and components, infrastructure, and automotive businesses, forms one of its four major business groups. Last year, the business accounted for about 10% to 15% of the total revenue each month. Despite the weak market conditions, the company continues to develop new business opportunities. By focusing on the sustainable business needs of global enterprises, the industrial automation business has secured orders from domestic semiconductor manufacturers and has created green solutions for chilled water main units according to customer requirements.
Delta Electronics points out that cleanrooms in semiconductor factories rely on high power consumption, using hundreds of chiller units to maintain stable temperatures, thereby ensuring yield and process quality. Its smart chiller energy-saving solution helps customers achieve an average energy saving of at least 16%, saving 14 million kWh of electricity per year. It only takes 2 years to break even on the construction cost. Combined with a management platform that incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) technology, it can further predict and analyze equipment anomalies.
In terms of hydrogen energy development, Delta Electronics now has a dedicated team responsible for development work. It has also signed a technology transfer and licensing agreement worth approximately £43 million (approximately NT$1.72 billion) with Ceres Power Limited, a subsidiary of the UK Ceres Group, to establish a long-term partnership. This partnership combines Delta's existing key technologies in power electronics, control, and heat dissipation to strengthen its solutions for microgrid power generation, chemical industry, ammonia production, energy, transportation vehicles, and steel.
Entering the field of hydrogen fuel cells
Acquire Ceres technology transfer license, production to begin in 2026
Delta Electronics CEO Cheng Ping-ding stated that the group's goal is to develop a complete solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system and a water electrolysis hydrogen production system (SOEC). The company will first establish a net-zero science laboratory at its Tainan plant between 2024 and 2026, with production starting at the end
