*Omicron
Pfizer BioNtech just announced that three doses of their vaccine seem to work as good against the amicron variant as two doses against previous variants. This is good news, as pfizer and Moderna already had the best protection.
Mountainous,
I agree that the last few days most "covid-sensitive" companies took a blow on the stock markets. I have Cineworld, Kinepolis, anheuser Bush Inbev, IAG and they all went down today.
My theory on cinemas is:
1. As long as the big films don't get delayed again, there should be a good revenue for cinema companies.
2. My guess is that at least a lot of countries in the western world will not go into a full lockdown. As we are seeing now in Austria, the Netherlands, most of the time cinemas can continue to work (somethimes with some restrictions). In Belgium, France, Germany, the UK we now have covid restrictions that do not change a lot for cinemas (you need to have a covid-safe pass and/or wear a mask in the entrance hall or when not seated,....)
It least in Belgium with cafes and restaurants closed at night, going to the cinema is considered a very safe way to have a night out with friends or family.
3. The fact that a lot of big films got delayed, is actually a positive sign: it shows that the movie producers need the cinemas to make profit out of there productions.
Just hold on tight (I bought a few more cineworld shares last friday)
Basilius, happy to see another Belgian here.
I have bought a few Kinepolis and Cineworld shares today. In Belgium it looks (not 100% sure) that the new restrictions that will be taken today, might turn out to be a possitive for cinemas. It is possible that it will be one of the only things indoors that will be allowed to do on a night out with friends or family.
I'm in Belgium and Brexit nor Channel crossing were in the news here the last couple of months. The number of covid cases, restrictions, what kind of lockdown will there be in European countries, that was in the news the last couple of weeks. Even without the new variant it is not going well with covid. The news and scientific predictions of covid cases in the US for the coming winter was also having an effect on specific shares imho.
I have topped up yesterday and today.
Today:
AMC: -0.63% (up to now)
Cineplex: -0.70%
Cineworld: -6.01%
Kinepolis: +1.89%
a few more shares I have:
Anheuser Busch Inbev: +0.65%
Lufthansa: +0.85%
Easyjet: +0.28%
IAG: +1.46%
TUI: +0.59%
I would say Cineworld took a bigger blow than other (more or less) related shares.
The Netherlands already has a "light" lockdown" because in some regions hospitals can no longer cope with the number of corona patients. In some regions of Germany there is a lockdown, as the covid cases have never been this high. Belgium has strict rules as of this saturday. Scientist predict a bad winter for the US in terms of corona cases.
I have a lot of CineWorld shares, I hope it won't be the case but I believe we will have to sit this winter out.....
