Today Lonza announced the latest addition to its cell-culture product portfolio � the Quasi Vivo� System. The Quasi Vivo� Device consists of an advanced, interconnected fluidics system to create more physiologically relevant cell-culture conditions, helping researchers improve the predictive value of their studies. This new product offering from Lonza is a result of a worldwide marketing and distribution agreement with Kirkstall � a biotechnology company based in Rotherham (UK). A common issue faced by drug discovery scientists who use conventional in vitro culture systems is their poor translatability to humans. To address this problem, Kirkstall developed the Quasi Vivo� System, which consists of interconnected cell-culture chambers and a peristaltic pump to create a continuous flow of media over cells. As a result, cultures are exposed to more physiologically relevant conditions, increasing the predictive value of in vitro experiments. The Quasi Vivo� System is available with three different culture chambers (QV500, QV600, and QV900) to support a wide range of applications, including submerged cell culture, co-culture and modeling of air-liquid and liquid-liquid interfaces. Not only is the Quasi Vivo� System easy to set up, it also enables close monitoring of variables during an experiment. Furthermore, the large scale and user configurability of the Quasi Vivo� System allows assays to be performed that are not possible using microfluidic systems. "Building on Lonza�s industry-respected cell-culture portfolio, the addition of the Quasi Vivo� System is an important step forward in advancing the use of primary cells in biomedical research," said Dr Maureen Bunger, Product Manager for ADME/Tox Solutions at Lonza. "Some of the limitations of primary cells, such as short life-spans and unstable phenotypes, are reduced when cells are cultured in a dynamic fluid system." She added: "The Quasi Vivo� System, which has been developed by Kirkstall�s scientists over the last 10 years, is an important addition to our portfolio of more than 100 different primary cell types and specialized media solutions." Israel's Delek plans more North Sea purchases in upstream oil, natural gas drive London (Platts)--28 Mar 2018 917 am EDT/1317 GMT Ithaca Energy, which was taken over by Israel's Delek Group last year, said Wednesday it was "actively" working on potential acquisitions to expand its North Sea footprint, while making progress on smaller projects aimed at bolstering its Stella field hub. Several projects to boost North Sea hub Delek also growing in Gulf of Mexico, Norway Ithaca was fully taken over by Delek last June, part of a strategy by the Israeli conglomerate to focus on upstream oil and gas following its role in some giant gas discoveries in the eastern Mediterranean.

Chief executive Asaf Bartfeld said then the acquisition was a significant step in the group�s internationalisation strategy.On Delek�s website it says Ithaca is targeting additional production from the startup of subsea developments around every two years and planning continued low cost entry to existing discoveries.Ithaca�s progress will be followed closely in Scotland as the North Sea oil and gas industry emerges from the long downturn triggered by the sharp fall in the crude price since 2014.Oil and gas firms made deep cuts in investment in the North Sea in response, sparking fears many discoveries could be left undeveloped.Industry leaders have said one of the key challenges firms need to crack is how to develop small finds economically.Ithaca started production from Stella in February last year. The start-up date slipped from late 2014 following delays in work on the production vessel.The company noted strong operational uptime performance is being achieved on FPF-1.Ithaca produced an average 13,909 barrels oil quivalent last year up 49% on the preceding year.Production costs fell to $19 per barrel from $23/bbl reflecting the scale economies achievable on Stella.The company has around 270 people working for it in Aberdeen and offshore.Output is expected to average 15,000 boed this year, taking account of the $53m sale of Ithaca�s stake in the onshore Wytch Farm development in Dorset in July and the expected start of production from Harrier.
