Dusty,
I think they will generally continue to allign with GE Hitachi, they technology seems to have a lot of overlap and it would make sense to bring the expertise together especially when developing a new technology in the tightest regulated sectors in the world, better to have a slice of a pie than noe pie at all. For UK deployment it seems too coincidental that the UK decided to invest in HALEU production in the UK for there to be no HALEU powered reactors in the UK. I still think that these reactors will be awarded less orders and the delivery will be pushed back for delivery after the RR / Triso reactors are built / in build.
Fordm,
I generally agree with the sentiment, UK Gov seems to amaze us time after time with their ability to hobble UK innovation and make a pigs ear at every opportunity. Anyone remember TSR2? Although the body responsible for making the final decision is 'at-arms-length' which, in theory, should detach the decision from external political influences. But I not naive enough to think that politics wont play a part. Although I think that works in our favour, especially with the tango tariff trantrums of late. The goverment needs a good new story and giving jobs, energy security and investment to the USA would not go down well. I do think the RR solution is the best fit for the UK, poses the least risk and would be the cheapest (Think of the money the goverment will get back in taxes from RR, RR workforce, Tier 1 suppliers etc). This is ultimately why I am bullish long term in the SMR race with regards to RR!
