Yep, you could tell from the off that there was going to be a lot of noise today. 'It is what it is,' but it does get frustrating when ALL the good news is 'shot down' by the same posters, many with different aliases.

Protein powders are not automatically HSA/FSA-eligible under normal IRS rules.

My earlier wording made it sound like they’re universally covered, which isn’t accurate.

What’s actually happening with the Myprotein + Flex partnership is this:

Standard IRS rules only allow HSA/FSA spending on items that treat or prevent a specific medical condition.

General “wellness” protein or supplements for fitness don’t qualify by default.

Platforms like Flex/TrueMed work by:

Screening the customer with a short health questionnaire

Determining whether the product is being used for a medical purpose (e.g., obesity management, malnutrition, recovery, doctor-recommended use)

Generating the required documentation/Letter of Medical Necessity

Then enabling HSA/FSA payment at checkout when it meets those criteria.

So it’s new in the sense that:

OK so I have no clue what an FSA or HSA is so I googled it:
