A battery factory financed with Chinese capital could be established in Sonora, interested in the so-called largest lithium deposit in the world, which already have shares in a company that has a presence in the town.
Jorge Vidal Ahumada, Secretary of Economy, said that on his trip through Asia he met with investors of the Yanfeng company, who announced that they already own more than 20% of Bacanora Minerals, which is of Mexican and Canadian capital, which excites the Chinese.
He stressed that Yanfeng's particularity is that they are part of the entire lithium value chain, from its extraction to the production of products, which makes them the largest mineral company in China, where they manufacture all types of batteries.
"They have more than 7 thousand employees and are very interested in coming in January, they come on a commercial mission to Sonora, because they are interested in being here seeing the possibility of installing to set up a battery factory," he said.
He considered that this interest derives from the announcement that the largest lithium deposit in the world is in Sonora, which envisions a different and interesting panorama for the entity's mining.
He indicated that there is still no estimate of jobs that this could generate, since they are barely in the facilities stage due to the type of Sonoran deposit, as this is exposed and not excavated.
“The production of lithium in the case of Sonora is very special, it is on the surface, so it is a process that seems very innovative, they have already invested between 20 and 25 million dollars, but right now what they are doing is developing the projection plan, ”he said.
