RE: Is this a good Hold ?7 May 2026 10:58
@CBax A deal is unlikely to be announced before the RoC Govt has promulgated the new Mining Code, which we were told in the SENS announcement on the 30th of April 2026 will be during the second quarter of 2026. Thereafter, the timing of an offer is probably going to be linked to how much time will be required by the bidder to review the newly promulgated Mining Code as well as finalise the local community and social development requirements therein? The draft code was published in November so if the final code hasn't changed too drastically since then, maybe it won't be that long.
(From a Google search) Key details regarding the Mining Code update include:
Purpose: The new code will formally address the government-owned entity that will hold the state's 10% free carry stake in mining projects.
Background: A draft, which introduced competitive bidding, formal permitting for artisanal miners, and support for in-country processing, was approved in November 2025.
Context: The update is part of broader efforts to strengthen the domestic value chain and increase state participation in natural resources, similar to recent revisions in other African nations.
In my opinion (With limited knowledge), the earliest scenario for an announcement of a formal offer would be late June, more likely late July or August, with the deal being finalised (In terms of approval from shareholders, payment dates, etc.) by the end of October 2026. That's if all goes to plan with no unforeseen delays. That's just my personal opinion so take it with a pinch of salt.
