Elenilto, a major mining company, has been selected by the Togolese government, following an international tender to develop a carbonated phosphate production project, said a press release of the company published on Wednesday.
The country has estimated reserves of 2 billion tons that could generate revenue of about $ 28 billion.
Elenilto joined the giant Wengfu Group, one of the largest Chinese companies working in the sector and phosphate fertilizers.
The total investment is 1.4 billion provided to 40% by Wengfu.
The consortium plans to market within 3 years 3,000,000 tonnes of concentrate phosphate rock and phosphoric acid 500,000 tons and 1.3 million tons of fertilizers.
The factory could employ thousands of Togolese. Good news in the struggle of the government against unemployment.
The talks on the implementation of the final agreement is expected to begin within weeks.
Elenilto, a subsidiary of Engelinvest Group (real estate and mining), operates in the mining and oil activities in Liberia, Ghana, Georgia, Congo Brazzaville, Guinea, Ethiopia and Tanzania.
