Patients will presumably have the option of whether to take Lupuzor alone or with standard of care. So that is my point,this addional data will be more significant as it will reveal the Responder rates for only taking Lupuzor without any interference from soc.

Every patient on the extension study is taking Lupuzor, so presumably with that knowledge they will decide to drop the standard of care, which for the first time will yield response rates for the Lupuzor alone. A response from taking just the Lupuzor has not yet been determined as everyone has been taking standard of care irrespective of being on the placebo or the Lupuzor. Hence if the response rate is still very high it will prove beyond doubt that it is the Lupuzor which is responsible, This additional data could prove to be much more significant than the original phase 3 trial data. Any thoughts?

The only way to tell how effective Lupuzor is is to run the trial in which the placebo group receive no standard of care. I know this would never happen but it's the only way you accurately determine how effective Lupuzor is. For all we know the standard of care drugs could be effecting the mechanism of the Lupuzor in some way, who knows. In the real world those patients taking Lupuzor would not be taking standard of care also. The clinical trials protocol needs to be changed to allow for a placebo group who are not receiving any additional treatment. This could be possible if volunteers in the trial were prepared to foresake the s-o-c.

I does not make sense that Benlysta with all its side effects is approved by the FDA but that Lupuzor with its zero side-effects and better efficacy, is not. When the placebo includes standard of care treatment you will always get a higher than expected response rate, but any FDA review should really take this into account. I think the FDA could still approve Lupuzor when they look at the data closely. It's a good reward to risk ratio at this price.
