Yes they employ contractors for build, simple installs etc. but there is a big difference between a contractor with 2 months training and a engineer with 5+ years of experience. There are and I am sure for sometime to come, multiple instances that the own brew engineer will be required to save the day.
While it shouldn't matter I am not employed by BT now or ever.
