Annuity obviously provides guaranteed income, so you can enjoy life with the certainty of regular income, without having to manage a SIPP portfolio. The recent Trump Tariff Tantrum would have given most people in drawdown phase a shock.

I'm also looking for a joint life policy, with 50% for my wife. Index linking is not important for me - our state pensions and my wife's civil service pension will be index linked - that would cover our base expenses.

I thought the annuity quotation you get via the intermediaries are net of any commissions, so you would just go for the best (highest) quotation.

Thank you for your comprehensive response. I've done some online research about annuities, but there are so many firms that crop up when I search for annuity rates/quotations.

I have medical history, so I shall qualify for enhanced annuity rate, but my concern is the level of paperwork that I would need to provide to the annuity 'brokers' -including medical history, current health issues, medications, etc. I wish there was a standard template you could complete and send it to multiple brokers.

Some insurance companies, e.g standard life, can be approached directly.

I just want the best rates, after allowing for the broker commission.

I'll be going for joint life annuity.

If so, how did yiu get your quotations? Via an intermediary or directly from the provider.
