(Alliance News) -Â Wizz Air Holdings PLC on Wednesday reported a drop in passengers numbers at the start of 2021 with travel still severely hampered by the coronavirus pandemic.
The central and eastern Europe-focused airline - which also has started Abu Dhabi operations - flew 573,692 passengers in January, down 82% on a year ago. Load factor was 29.2 percentage points lower at 61.0% from 90.2% year-on-year, and capacity fell 73% to 940,410 seats.
In December 2020, Wizz Air carried 665,722 passengers, down 80% from 3.3 million in December 2019.
The airline added that Wizz Air Abu Dhabi started operations in January with its inaugural flight to Athens, Greece.
Shares in Wizz Air were up 2.1% at 4,714.00 pence in London on Wednesday.
