Wednesday preview: Sports Direct reports ahead of joining FTSE 100

Sports Direct International is set to release a trading update on Wednesday following reports it will be promoted to the FTSE 100 index for the very first time next week.The company, along with Coca-Cola and South African paper and packaging firm Mondi, are expected to replace oil services firm John Wood Group, miner Eurasian Natural Resources Corp. and support services firm Serco Group, which will move to the FTSE 250 index.Sports Direct, currently listed on the FTSE 250, in July reported full year pre-tax profits of £207.2m up from £148m after revenues jumped 20.9% to £2.2bn.Online sales were strong, rising 52.1% and representing 15% of total sports retail sales.The retailer said trading had been ahead of expectations for the first quarter of the financial year.As a result, 2,000 employees were rewarded an average of £70,000 worth of shares. Another company in focus on Wednesday will be Barratt Developments, Britain's biggest housebuilder, which delivers its full-year results. The UK's housing market has experienced a recent uptick thanks to government schemes such as Help to Buy and Funding for Lending. In May, Barratt said the sector was at its strongest in five years, as it posted a 9.7% increase in sales for the year so far. Kingfisher is expected to benefit from the hot summer when it reports interim results on Wednesday. The barbecue summer boosted sales of outdoor products at B&Q by 20% during the second quarter, offsetting an equally extended cold winter. In macro-economic news, a UK jobs report is expected show employers added 55,000 workers in July compared to 69,000 in June.
