Thu, 31st Aug 2023 21:37

(Alliance News) - Samsung Electronics Co on Thursday said that it and Vodafone Group PLC are replacing technology in the UK with virtualised open radio access networks, alias RAN, on Vodafone's 2,500 sites.

The sites are in Wales and south-west England.

Samsung said that is "the largest open RAN rollout in the UK". It added: "For this installation, Samsung is providing its vRAN software supporting Multi-RAT (multiple radio access technology) - across 4G and 5G - and its O-RAN compliant radios in the low- and mid-bands, including its Massive MIMO radios."

Vodafone shares closed down 0.1% at 73.20 pence each on Thursday in London. They are down 35% from a year ago.
