HOUSTON, Jan 16 (Reuters) - No start date has been set for aplanned overhaul of the second-largest crude distillation unitat Motiva Enterprises' 600,250 barrel per day refinery in PortArthur, Texas, said sources familiar with the company's plans.

The start of the planned 45-day overhaul of the 195,000 bpdCDU called VPS-4 at the Motiva Port Arthur refinery iscontingent on the successful completion of a seven-week overhaulunderway on the plant's 92,000 bpd gasoline-producing fluidiccatalytic cracking unit, which began on Tuesday, the sourcessaid on Friday.

Motiva has blocked the entire spring from late March toearly June as the possible time to carry out the work on theCDU, which is the second largest of three at the refinery, alongwith a 49,000 bpd catalytic reformer, a hydrotreater and asulfur recovery unit, according to the sources.

A Motiva spokeswoman was did not information about the PortArthur refinery's plans.

The workers contracted to overhaul the FCCU will be neededto work on VPS-4, the sources said.

"It all depends on how the cat unit work goes," one of thesources said.

The Motiva Port Arthur refinery is the largest in the UnitedStates. Motiva is a 50-50 joint venture between Royal DutchShell Plc and Saudi Aramco. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Chris Reese and JamesDalgleish)
