July 30 (Reuters) - BP Plc, outlining the rest of themodernization project at the 413,000 barrel per day (bpd)Whiting, Indiana, refinery, said it expects a sulfur recoveryunit and a hydrotreater to come on line in the third quarter,and a coker in the fourth quarter.
"All of these units are nearing mechanical completion," IainConn, chief executive of refining and marketing, told investorson Tuesday during an earnings conference call.
A 250,000 bpd crude distillation unit (CDU), the centerpieceof the $4 billion modernization, started up at the end of June.The project aims to allow the refinery to run cheaper crude oilfrom Canada's tar sand fields.
Conn said the CDU is now running 225,000 bpd of light crude.When all the units are up and running, the refinery will be ableto run 80 percent heavy sour crude oil.
The gasoil hydrotreater has a capacity of 105,000 bpd andthe coker - crucial to refining heavier crude oil - has acapacity of 102,000 bpd. (Reporting by Sabina Zawadzki; Editing by Gerald E. McCormickand John Wallace)
