UK to strengthen sanctions against failed bankers

LONDON, Feb 4 (Reuters) - Britain's Finance Minister GeorgeOsborne said on Monday that the government plans to strengthensanctions against senior bankers and open up bank paymentsystems to stimulate competition in the industry.

"I want to see how we can strengthen the sanctions regimefor senior bankers - for example, should there be a presumptionthat the directors of failed banks do not work in the sectoragain?," Osborne said in a speech on bank reform.
