UK GAS-Prices rise on colder weather, lower LNG supply

Tue, 22nd Dec 2020 10:16

LONDON, Dec 22 (Reuters) - British wholesale gas prices rose
on Tuesday morning, lifted by forecasts for colder weather from
tomorrow and lower liquefied natural gas send-out.

* Gas for immediate delivery rose by 2.65 pence
to
49.15 pence per therm by 1013 GMT.

* The day-ahead contract was 2.35 pence higher
at
49.35 p/therm.

* Mild weather in north west Europe is expected to come to
an end
tomorrow with temperatures dropping below seasonal normal
levels.

* This will raise local distribution zone demand, mainly fo
heating, to 225 million cubic metres (mcm) by tomorrow in
Britain and to 255 mcm/d by next Tuesday, Refinitiv gas analysts
said.

* Higher gas-for-power demand has been offset by larger
volumes of
imports from Norway through the Vesterled pipeline.

* However, liquiefied natural gas send-out is lower as
send-out
from the Isle of Grain terminal halved from yesterday.

* The system was balanced with both supply and demand at
around
280 mcm.

* Peak wind generation is forecast at 9.2 gigawatts (GW) on
Tuesday and 11.5 GW on Wednesday, out of total metered capacity
of around 18 GW, Elexon data showed.

* The UK contract for January gas delivery was
1.62
pence higher at 50.95 p/therm.

* The Dutch TTF January contract was 0.65 euro
higher
at 17.60 euros per megawatt hour.

* The benchmark Dec-21 EU carbon contract rose by
0.10
euro to 30.99 euros a tonne.
