TOP NEWS: WPP Appoints J Sainsbury's Argos CEO Rogers As Finance Chief

Tue, 01st Oct 2019 08:43

(Alliance News) - WPP PLC said Tuesday it has appointed John Rogers as chief financial officer with effect in early 2020, poaching him from J Sainsbury PLC where he is currently chief executive officer of its subsidiary Argos.

He will be succeeding Paul Richardson, who is stepping down from the advertising and public relations group at the end of January.

J Sainsbury also made an announcement concerning Rogers's departure from the FTSE 100 supermarket chain, saying that he will leave at the end of October.

Rogers has been in his role in Argos for three years, since 2016. Prior to that he was chief financial officer at Sainsbury's for six years from 2010 to 2016.

At Sainsbury's, no successor to Rogers has been named, with Argos's retail and logistics teams reporting to Retail & Operations Director Simon Roberts, while its commercial team will report to Commercial Director Paul Mills-Hicks.

"John is not only an accomplished CFO, but also a leader with extensive experience of business transformation. His priority will be to lead a finance function that best fosters investment in creativity, technology and talent in support of WPP's new strategy for growth," said WPP Chief Executive Officer Mark Read.

Sainsbury's CEO Mike Coupe said: "John has worked alongside me for over fourteen years and has made an outstanding contribution to the business. He leaves Sainsbury's with our best wishes for the future."

Shares in WPP were up 1.3% at 1,031.50 pence, while J Sainsbury shares were 1.5% higher at 223.10p on Tuesday in London.
