(Alliance News) - Ryanair Holdings PLC on Wednesday said passenger numbers more than doubled in July following the roll-out of EU Covid certificates.
The budget airline carried 9.3 million passengers, up from 4.4 million a year ago. Compared to June, passenger numbers increased by 75% from 5.3 million.
The load factor, measuring how many seats on planes are filled, was 80% in July. That's up from the 72% achieved in both June and in July 2020.
The Dublin-based carrier cited the EU Covid certificate scheme, which was rolled out on July 1. This allows those who have either been vaccinated, tested negative, or recovered from the disease to travel within the bloc.
On Tuesday, smaller rival Wizz Air Holdings PLC said July passenger numbers increased 62% year-on-year and 90% month-on-month, with a load factor of 79%.
Ryanair shares were down 0.1% at EUR16.64 in London on Wednesday morning.
