TOP NEWS: IAG Says Pro-Forma Group Traffic Up 4.4% In May

Fri, 03rd Jun 2016 14:21

LONDON (Alliance News) - International Consolidated Airlines Group SA on Friday said group traffic, capacity and premium traffic all rose in May.

IAG - which owns British Airways, Ireland's Aer Lingus, and Spanish carriers Iberia and Vueling - said its group traffic measured by revenue passenger kilometres rose 14%. Group capacity measured in available seat kilometres also rose 14%.

On a pro-forma basis, traffic rose 4.4%, whilst capacity rose 4.5%. Group premium traffic rose 1.4% in May on a year before, also on a pro-forma basis.

IAG reported the traffic figures on a pro-forma basis to adjust for its acquisition of Aer Lingus last August.

Early in May, IAG agreed a deal with Gogo Inc to provide high-speed inflight connectivity for longhaul flights using satellite based systems. In total 118 British Airways, four Aer Lingus B757s and up to 15 Iberia long-haul aircraft will be fitted with Gogo's latest broadband technology 2Ku.

IAG said Friday that by early 2019, 90% of its long-haul fleet will be fitted with high-quality connectivity.

Shares in IAG were down 1.2% at 525.60 pence Friday.
