LONDON (Alliance News) - Sound Energy PLC said Monday it has appointed David Clarkson as non-executive director of the upstream gas firm.

Clarkson - a chartered engineer - is a former senior executive at BP PLC. He served as senior vice president for projects & engineering for the FTSE 100-listed oil and gas giant's upstream operations. In that role, he managed around USD20 billion in annual capital expenditure.

"I am delighted to welcome David to the board of Sound Energy," Sound Chairman Richard Liddell said. "David has a distinguished career with a wealth of experience, capability and achievements to his credit, and he will reinforce the board in a number of areas, but particularly in our project development and engineering capability as we approach the development of our existing Moroccan discovery."

Shares in Sound Energy were 0.7% higher at 39.28 pence on Monday.
