(Alliance News) - Smiths Group PLC on Tuesday reported a cyber security incident that involved unauthorised access to its systems.

The London-based engineering firm makes products for the aerospace, communications, energy and security sectors.

Smiths Group said it rapidly isolated affected systems and activated business continuity plans as soon as it became aware of the unauthorised activity.

"Smiths is working with cyber security experts to recover affected systems and determine any wider impact on the business. The company is taking steps to comply with all relevant regulatory requirements. An update will be provided as and when appropriate," the company said.

Smiths Group shares were down 1.8% to 1,850.00 pence on Tuesday morning in London.
