Shaftesbury signs over 60 new brands as footfall rebounds

Tue, 07th Dec 2021 12:24

(Alliance News) - Shaftesbury PLC announced on Tuesday it has signed over 60 new retail, hospitality and leisure brands across it's London West End villages since October 2020.

The London-based real estate investment trust said 33 new retailers had joined Shaftesbury's villages, 23 of which were brands making their debuts in the UK. Brands include clothing retailers such as American Eagle and Gilly Hicks and record label Third Man Records.

Shaftesbury said the strength of demand from operators and the rapid recovery in footfall and sales across its locations represents a "vote of confidence" in its "long-term appeal and prospects".

According to Shaftesbury, weekend footfall is currently at or above 2019 levels, while on weekdays it is approximately 80% of 2019 levels.

Shaftesbury had reported a reduction in losses and improved trading in the six month period ended September 30, recording a narrowed pretax loss of GBP194.9 million from GBP699.5 million the year before.

Shares in Shaftesbury were up 0.8% at 618.50 pence on Tuesday in London.
