Ryanair July traffic slumps 70%

Tue, 04th Aug 2020 09:32

(Sharecast News) - Ryanair reported a 70% fall in July traffic on Tuesday as it operated just 40% of its normal schedule due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Passenger numbers declined to 4.4 million from 14.8m in July last year, while the load factor - which gauges how full the planes are - was 72%.

On a rolling 12-month basis, passenger numbers were down 35% to 96.8m.

Last week, the budget airline reported a €185m loss for the first quarter compared to a net profit of €243m in the same period a year ago, with passenger numbers down 99% as its fleet was grounded from mid-March to the end of June due to the Covid-19 crisis.

The company also said at the time of the results that its expects to operate around 40% of its normal July schedule, rising to 60% in August and "hopefully" 70% in September.

It cautioned that a second wave of Covid-19 cases across Europe in late autumn was its "biggest fear right now".
