Thu, 07th Jul 2022 12:40

(Alliance News) - Kromek Group PLC on Thursday said it has entered into an agreement with Smiths Detection Inc to distribute its radiation detection equipment to North and South American markets.

Smiths Detection, a part of the Smiths Group PLC, specialises in threat detection and screening technologies for aviation, ports and borders, defence and urban security markets.

Shares in the Sedgefield, England-based detection technology supplier were up 9.7% to 10.15 pence each in London on Thursday around midday. Meanwhile, shares in Smiths Group were up 2.5% to 1,418.50p each.

Under the terms of the contract, Smiths will market and distribute Kromek's D3 and D5 series of wearable radiation detectors. The detection and identification solutions are designed to enable first responders, armed forces, border security and other CBRN experts to detect radiological threats such as dirty bombs, radioactive contamination and smuggling of radioactive substances, Kromek said.

Chief Executive Arnab Basu said: "We are delighted to partner with Smiths Detection, which has been at the forefront of providing solutions needed to protect society for over four decades.

"Our wearable D3 and D5 family of products are closely aligned to the needs of Smiths Detection's customer base and complement their existing product offering," Basu added.
