Halma Hires Former BTG Chief Executive Louise Makin As Chair Designate

Tue, 09th Feb 2021 09:05

(Alliance News) - Halma PLC on Tuesday said it has hired former BTG PLC chief executive Louise Makin as a non-executive director and chair designate from July.

The FTSE 100 hazard detection and life protection technologies manufacturer said Makin will join the Halma board as a non-executive director Tuesday. She will replace Paul Walker as chair when he steps down from the board in July after eight years in the role.

In September, Halma had announced Walker would be leaving the company to become chair of FTSE 100 business publisher and events organiser RELX PLC in the first half of 2021.

Makin is currently a non-executive director of pharmaceutical company Theramex Ltd, specialty chemical firm Atotech Ltd and FTSE 100 assurance, inspection, product testing and certification company Intertek Group PLC. She was previously chief executive of specialist healthcare company BTG, a former FTSE 250 listing acquired by the US's Boston Scientific Corp for GBP3.3 billion in 2019.

"I look forward to working with Louise as Halma's next chair. She brings tremendous experience and is an excellent cultural fit with Halma and its purpose. She will build on Paul's eight years as chair and will maintain Halma's track record of stable, long-term leadership," said Chief Executive Andrew Williams.

Shares in Halma were trading 1.1% lower at 2,455.00 pence each on Tuesday morning in London.
