GCM Resources Receives Study For Phulbari Power Plants In Bangladesh

Tue, 06th Nov 2018 10:28

LONDON (Alliance News) - GCM Resources PLC said Tuesday it received a prefeasibility study for mine-mouth coal-fired power plants at the Phulbari coal & power project in Bangladesh.

The exploration company received the study from Power Construction China Corp of China Ltd, the parent company of Sinohydro Corp Ltd which had been appointed in September to conduct the study.

The report confirmed that 6,000 megawatts can be generated from the mine's thermal coal production if using a "highly energy efficient plant design".

GCM Chairman Michael Tang said: "This is a significant step for the Phulbari coal & power project as it confirms that technically the project is able to support 6,000MW of power generation."

Earlier in September, GCM said these power plants were expected to generate up to 4,000 megawatts in addition to the existing 2,000 megawatts power plant proposal.

GCM shares were trading up 5.3% at 15.67 pence each.
