Galliford Try's Highways Unit Wins Projects Worth GBP461 Million

Tue, 24th Sep 2019 08:35

(Alliance News) - Construction and housebuilding group Galliford Try PLC said Tuesday its Highways business has been appointed to several projects collectively valued at GBP461 million.

Two of the largest schemes were awarded by UK government-owned Highways England under the new Regional Delivery Partnerships Framework. Both appointments include an initial design phase before moving to construction.

The largest scheme is valued at GBP300 million and is a series of five projects for upgrading the A47 trunk road between Great Yarmouth and Peterborough.

Work to be undertaken includes dualling single carriageways, road widening and the construction of new junctions and bridges. The scheme is expected to start in Galliford Try's 2022 financial year.

The second largest scheme, valued at GBP135 million is located on the A303 between Sparkford and Ilchester in Somerset. Work includes dualling 5.6 kilometres of the existing carriageway, three new junctions, two new structures and earthworks.

Start on site will be March 2020, subject to planning consent with the new route open to traffic in 2023.

The smaller projects includes the second phase of the Grantham Southern Relief road by Lincolnshire County Council, worth GBP19 million.

There is also a GBP7.0 million contract award from Leicestershire County Council for carrying out improvements to the A46 and A5630 at Anstey to increase capacity for a new housing and industrial development.

"The Highways sector is a key strategic focus for our construction business as set out in our recent results, and we are delighted to have secured this high-quality pipeline of work. We have a strong working relationship with Highways England and the county councils involved and we look forward to delivering these much-needed infrastructure improvements alongside them," said Chief Executive Graham Prothero.

Shares in Galliford Try were up 1.4% at 679.10 pence each in London on Tuesday.
