FTSE 250 movers: Icap falls on FX trading volume decline

Wed, 07th May 2014 14:41

Interdealer broker Icap was sharply lower on Wednesday after it reported a decline in its foreign exchange trading volumes in April. Pub group JD Wetherspoon also fell after it voiced uncertainty about fourth-quarter trading, with sales having slowed in the last few weeks. Wetherspoon said it had a good February and March, but like-for-like sales in April rose less than a year ago and Easter was below last year. BBA Aviation was also in the red after reporting weaker European and commercial markets, although it said it was headed for recovery in the North American market. Property website Rightmove failed to impress investors despite saying the positive start to 2014 had continued as the UK property market improves. The group is confident of meeting full-year targets.Meanwhile, insurer esure rose despite posting broadly flat gross written premiums for the quarter ended March 31st. More positively, the group has "continued to seek pockets of opportunity" to grow its in-force policies, which increased by 1.5% in Q1 to 1.962m, and 9.5% year-on-year.Wood Group was lower despite officially establishing its joint venture (JV) with Siemens AG after all regulatory approvals were received. The JV, EthosEnergy, is a blend of Wood Group GTS's Maintenance and Power Solutions businesses and Siemens' TurboCare business unit which provides aftermarket gas turbine, steam turbine and generator design, repair and manufacturing services.
