FTSE 250 movers: De La Rue climbs on profit, broker comment

Wed, 28th May 2014 14:00

Banknote printer De La Rue rose after it posted a 43% jump in full-year underlying operating profit and said it has entered the new financial year with a good order book. Helping it higher was Investec, which upped its target price from 890p to 915p and left its 'buy' recommendation unaltered. Also on the rise was Serco, which has been selected to manage the new 15-year franchise for the Caledonian Sleeper service between London and several Scottish cities. From April 1st 2015, the company will take over from FirstGroup which currently operates the service through its ScotRail franchise.Despite the news, FirstGroup remained in positive territory, up around 0.3%. Infrastructure specialist Balfour Beatty was higher on the news it has won a further framework contract with Heathrow Airport worth between £180m over three years. The group, which could see the framework increased by £70m over a further two years from 2016, will work with Heathrow to maintain and upgrade Terminals 1, 2 and 4.Hikma Pharmaceuticals was also in positive territory, having agreed to acquire certain key assets of the Bedford Laboratories generic injectables business from US-based Ben Venue Laboratories for up to $300m. The purchase will be made for an initial $225m upfront cash payment as well as up to a further $75m in contingent cash payments during the following five-year period.Meanwhile, Cable & Wireless Communications fell sharply, which may be linked to reports it is planning to up its investment in its Caribbean and Central American networks. According to various reports, the group is planning to invest more than $1bn in the next three years on fixed and mobile networks.
