FTSE 100 movers: Hiscox dips, Whitbread climbs

(Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 100 was down 0.21% at 7,277.72 in afternoon trade on Friday, with Hiscox leading the index lower.
Following close behind, Coca-Cola HBC - which bottles Coca-Cola products - dropped lower after having climbed for two consecutive sessions on the back of its well-received third-quarter results on Wednesday.

Vodafone dropped after Labour pledged to partially nationalise fellow telecoms giant BT as part of an effort to provide free fibre broadband for every UK household by 2030.

However, CMC Markets analyst Michael Hewson said the fall could be more to do with the problems in Vodafone's Indian business, which has taken a charge of $4bn against possible demands from the Indian government for overdue fees.

Meanwhile, multinational tobacco companies British American Tobacco and Imperial Brands were both in the red.

Up at the other end of the index, Premier Inn owner Whitbread led the risers after analysts at Barclays upped their rating of the stock from 'equal weight' to 'overweight'.

Finally, home improvement specialist and B&Q owner Kingfisher crept higher ahead of the release of a trading update next Wednesday.
