FTSE 100 movers: Ex-dividend declines

Footsie's fallers are dominated by shares that are going ex-dividend.Marks & Spencer, Carnival, Sainsbury and Vodafone have all gone ex-dividend today. Retailer Marks & Spencer is paying an interim dividend of 6.2p a share but the share price has fallen by nearly double the amount of the dividend. Cruise company Carnival's final dividend is 10 cents a share - equivalent to 6.3p a share. That does not explain a decline in the share price of more than six times the dividend payment. Supermarkets group Sainsbury has fallen more than its 4.3p a share interim dividend but by a more modest 2p a share. Mobile phone networks operator Vodafone is paying an interim dividend of 2.85p a share, which is similar to the size of the fall in the share price. Credit checking firm Experian is experiencing improving trends across all regions in the first half of its financial year. Revenue from continuing activities in the six months to September 2010 was up 8% at constant exchange rates, while organic revenue growth was 7%. Total group revenue improved to $2bn from $1.9bn the year before. Profit before tax fell to $283m from $316m.Derivatives broker ICAP reported first half underlying revenue that is 2% ahead of last time. Total turnover in the half year to September 201 rose by 9% to £867m, but profits tumbled from £150m to £116m after one-off charges. Underlying profits rose by 2% to £183m.Panmure Gordon has upgraded its forecasts for GlaxoSmithKline following the endorsement of potential Lupus drug Benlysta by an FDA advisory committee by a margin of 13-2. The broker has upgraded 2013 earnings by 1.6% and 2014 earnings by 1.5%.
