Carnival plans September restart for P&O Mediterranean cruises

Tue, 22nd Jun 2021 14:39

(Alliance News) - Carnival PLC on Tuesday said its P&O Cruises brand will resume Mediterranean and Atlantic cost holidays on September 25, saying it's confident that European countries will allow UK tourists to enter.

But the company cancelled two long-haul cruises scheduled for January, saying the move was forced because of the "length and complexity" of the trips.

Shares in Carnival were up 1.4% to 1,746.40 pence in London.

The Mediterranean and Atlantic coast journeys will follow UK-only cruises, beginning on Sunday and continuing throughout the summer.

"We are confident that destinations will soon open up their borders both for UK travellers and also for cruise ships. Spain and its islands and the Caribbean are both looking very positive and we are seeing, one by one, countries publicly looking forward to welcoming us back," P&O Cruises President Paul Ludlow said.

Countries including France and Germany have banned non-essential travel from the UK, while those returning from most countries in Europe are required to quarantine for at least five days.

All adult customers on cruises departing between September 25 and December 31 will be required to have their second vaccine dose at least 14 days before sailing.

Carnival's Holland America Line will resume cruises from San Diego, California in September, the company announced late Monday.
