BT Group To Merge Enterprise Businesses As Part Of Simplification Plan

LONDON (Alliance News) - BT Group PLC on Wednesday that it will further simplify its operating model by merging its enterprise businesses in the UK and Ireland into one single unit, BT Enterprise.

The telecommunications company said its business & public sector and wholesale & ventures businesses will be combined to create BT Enterprise, effective October 1.

Gerry McQuade, currently chief executive of wholesale & ventures business, will lead the new unit from May 1. Graham Sutherland, head of the current business & public sector business, will leave BT.

The new BT Enterprise unit will provide products and services to small- to medium-sized business, corporate and public sectors, and provide wholesale services to around 1,400 communication providers in the UK and Republic of Ireland. The business will also include the ventures business which acts as an incubator for potential new growth areas of the company.

BT said its global services unit will continue to provide services to multinational companies operating in the UK and worldwide.

"Having brought together our Consumer and EE businesses, this is the next step in the simplification of BT's operating model. Combining our enterprise businesses will allow us to strengthen the services and products we offer to businesses and sharpen our focus on customer service, through clear accountabilities and by introducing efficiencies," said Chief Executive Gavin Patterson.

Shares in BT were trading 0.4% higher at 243.85 pence in early trade.
