BP so far unaffected by violence in Iraq, Chief Executive says

Tue, 17th Jun 2014 09:36

The turmoil in Iraq has not yet had an impact on BP's operations, the oil giant has said. Speaking at an energy conference in Moscow, the group's Chief Executive, Bob Dudley, told reporters that it was currently remaining "very vigilant", but that its assets were "a long way from the troubles". Oil prices have rocketed to multi-month highs in recent sessions on the back of the violence in Iraq between the army and Sunni Islamist militants.According to Reuters, Dudley (pictured) revealed that while non-essential production staff have been removed, operations in the area have remained ongoing. The group has a contract with South Oil Company, a state-owned organisation, to increase production at the Rumanaila oilfield to 2.85m barrels per day by the latter half of the next decade. Shares had inched 0.06% higher to 505.90p by 09:51.NR
