BP shuts gas field over Iran link

BP has halted gas production at the Rhum field which it co-owns with Iran while the UK oil giant finds out if it's breaking European Union sanctions.The field, in the North Sea more than 200 miles from Aberdeen, is able to pump 212m cubic feet of gas a day from recoverable reserves of about 800bn cubic feet.Clarification is now being sought from the British government as to whether the recent introduction of sanctions applies to Rhum."BP confirms that, pending clarification from the UK Government on certain aspects of the new European Union regulations concerning restrictive measures against Iran, production from the Rhum gas field in the central North Sea has been suspended," the company said. "Once we obtain such clarification from the Government, we will review the situation and will take whatever action is appropriate in light of that clarification."
