BP L.A. refinery restarting gasoline-producing FCC-sources

HOUSTON, March 4 (Reuters) - BP Plc's 240,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) Los Angeles-area refinery inCarson, California, was restarting its 102,500- bpdgasoline-producing fluidic catalytic cracking (FCC) unit onMonday, said sources familiar with operations at the refinery.

The FCC has been shut for eight weeks for a planned overhaulthat included a related alkylation unit. The work was originallyscheduled to last for six weeks. The FCC restart could lastthrough March 12, but may be completed earlier.

The alkylation unit, which uses refining byproducts to makeoctane-boosting additives for gasoline, will restart once theFCC returns to production, the sources said. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Jeffrey Benkoe)
