BP: Collects 4,090 Barrels Of Oil, Flares 3,885 Barrels In Gulf Tue

Tue, 13th Jul 2010 00:48

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES BP PLC (BP, BP.LN) said late Tuesday that it has not yet started testing a sealing cap the company placed over a leaking well in the Gulf of Mexico, but that the company collected 4,090 barrels of oil and flared, or burned, 3,885 barrels of oil earlier in the day. The U.K. oil major placed the new device on top of the well Monday night, raising hopes that the gushing well, which has caused a nearly three-month environmental and economic crisis in at least four coastal states, could be contained. The company has said it plans to begin testing to ensure the cap and related casing are working on Tuesday. In addition to the oil BP collected and flared between midnight and noon Tuesday, BP also flared 14.5 million cubic feet of natural gas, the company reported. -By Cassandra Sweet, Dow Jones Newswires; 415-439-6468; cassandra.sweet@dowjones.com Order free Annual Report for BP plc Visit http://djnewswires.ar.wilink.com/?link=BP or call 1-888-301-0513 (END) Dow Jones Newswires July 13, 2010 19:48 ET (23:48 GMT)
