FTSE 250 movers: Provident Financial climbs, TI Fluid spills lower

Tue, 27th Aug 2019 15:01

(Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 250 was up 0.48% at 19,327.76 in afternoon trading on Tuesday, with Provident Financial leading the index higher.
Meanwhile, precious metals miners Centamin and Hochschild Mining racked up solid gains as gold prices rose and silver futures hit a two-year high.

Market analysts from SP Angel said: "Long-term uncertainty over the ongoing US-China trade war may push gold higher in the long run. A wider trend of 'de-dollarisation', or central banks buying into alternatives to the dollar including gold, may also strengthen gold prices. Bank of England governor Mark Carney stated at the recent Jackson Hole meeting that the dollar's position as the world's reserve currency should be challenged."

IWG, formerly Regus, was on the front foot following reports over the weekend that the office space provider was looking to spin off its US business and list it in New York.

TI Fluid Systems led the fallers down at the other end of the index, while Computacenter was also under the cosh as analysts at Berenberg maintained their 'hold' rating on the shares but warned that they saw company's recent results as "mixed".

The analysts added that the computer services provider "appears to be tracking the market's mid-single-digit growth rather than outperforming it", lagging behind competitors such as Softcat.

Finally, Woodford Patient Capital stumbled after the Sunday Times reported that two early-stage healthcare companies the fund ploughed new money into in February have dropped in value to almost zero.
