FTSE 100 movers: Prudential rises on AIA readacross

Fri, 18th Oct 2013 15:03
Life insurance and giant Prudential was a high riser on Friday after Asian peer AIA reported record quarterly results with new business up 26 per cent. "The insurance sector was also helped by reports that an EU capital requirement could be eased compared to the initial version sought by regulators," said Financial Sales Trader Max Cohen from Spreadex.easyJet shares continued to rise as the company recovered from an IT meltdown earlier this week, when its Europe-wide computer system crashed, causing flight delays and cancellations. A number of mining stocks were performing well, as investor confidence grew on the back of hopes that the political uncertainty in Washington may prompt the Federal Reserve to continue with its stimulus measures for a little longer, and after Chinese GDP grew at a year-on-year rate of 7.8% in the third quarter, rebounding after the 7.5% growth seen in the second quarter.Heading the other way was William Hill after JPMorgan Cazenove downgraded the stock from 'overweight' to 'underweight', saying that the bookmaker will face challenges after its profit warning in the third quarter.Satellite television and broadband group BSkyB retreated one day after recording a strong rise in first-quarter revenues helped by an increase of 800,000 paid-for subscription products. The group's profits declined after a step-up in Premier League costs.Diversified mining group Anglo American was lower after reporting a 24% fall in iron-ore production in the third quarter and an 8% decline in manganese, which together account for one half of group profits. Goldman Sachs was also weighing on the share price after cutting its target for iron ore.FTSE 100 - RisersPrudential (PRU) 1,259.00p +3.71%Fresnillo (FRES) 984.00p +3.31%Reckitt Benckiser Group (RB.) 4,481.00p +2.87%Whitbread (WTB) 3,355.00p +2.47%Travis Perkins (TPK) 1,792.00p +2.46%Babcock International Group (BAB) 1,206.00p +2.20%Wolseley (WOS) 3,258.00p +2.07%Experian (EXPN) 1,188.00p +2.06%Melrose Industries (MRO) 306.60p +2.00%Schroders (SDR) 2,615.00p +1.83%FTSE 100 - FallersWilliam Hill (WMH) 403.70p -3.14%British Sky Broadcasting Group (BSY) 925.00p -1.60%Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS) 372.40p -1.19%Anglo American (AAL) 1,537.00p -1.03%CRH (CRH) 1,524.00p -0.97%Barclays (BARC) 276.25p -0.74%Morrison (Wm) Supermarkets (MRW) 281.50p -0.71%BAE Systems (BA.) 442.30p -0.65%Rolls-Royce Holdings (RR.) 1,090.00p -0.64%Centrica (CNA) 362.00p -0.63%NR
