The first year of independence saw earnings remain virtually static at Cable and Wireless Communications (CWC), largely as a result of a more difficult Caribbean market than the telecoms group expected at the time of its demerger. Shares dropped over 10% by Wednesday afternoon.Sportswear retailer Sports Direct and electricals goods group Dixons Retail are also losing heavily.Following suit is Premier Farnell, the electronic and industrial components distributor, after it named Valerie Gooding, the former chief executive of health insurance firm BUPA, as its new chairman.Also unhappy with changes at the top are investors at London-focused landlord Shaftesbury after the group appointed current finance director Brian Bickell as its new chief executive. The group also increased its net asset value by 5.3% in the six months to 31 March, while rental income grew by 13%.Engineering software firm Aveva is also lower despite registering record revenues in the year ended 31 March, helped by a strong performance in the emerging markets, mainly driven by growth in the oil and gas sector. Profits were roughly in line with expectations at the interim stage for stockbroker and investment manager Brewin Dolphin, while funds under management (FUM) hit the £25bn mark.
