UPDATE: Rangers Non-Executive Chris Graham Resigns Amid Twitter Controversy

Fri, 13th Mar 2015 18:34

LONDON (Alliance News) - Rangers International Football Club PLC said Friday that Non-Executive Director Chris Graham has tendered his resignation, and that this has been accepted by the board, just three days after he was appointed amidst controversy surrounding an image tweeted by Graham.

Police are carrying out inquiries into the tweet.

Graham was appointed alongside John Bennett on Tuesday.

Last Friday shareholders voted to oust directors on the board closely associated with Sports Direct International PLC founder Mike Ashley and back proposals tabled by investor Dave King.

Chief Executive Derek Llambias and Finance Director Barry Leach were voted off the board and King, Paul Murray and John Gilligan were voted in as directors on the board. King is a former director of the club, as is Murray, while Gilligan is the former Rangers Supporters Trust vice-chairman.

Chairman David Somers and Non-Executive Director James Easdale departed from Rangers in the lead-up to the general meeting. Both were considered to be sympathetic to Ashley's cause.

Rangers shares are currently suspended from trading.
