HOUSTON, May 8 (Reuters) - May-delivery CARBOB gasolinejumped 12 cents a gallon in the San Francisco Bay spot market onWednesday after a Bay-area refinery reported shutting a crudeunit earlier in the week, traders said.
Royal Dutch Shell Plc's 156,400 barrel per day(bpd) refinery in Martinez, California, shut a unit on Mondaynight following a leak of "pitch-like material" from anisolation valve on the unit, according to a notice filed withCalifornia pollution regulators and released to the public onWednesday.
CARBOB sold in the Bay market at 37 cents a gallon over JuneNYMEX RBOB gasoline.
May CARBOB rose 3 cents a gallon in the Los Angeles spotmarket to 45 cents a gallon over June RBOB as Exxon Mobil Corp continued planned maintenance that has shut severalunits at its 149,500 bpd Torrance, California, refinery.
In the Portland, Oregon, market, May gasoline held at 55cents a gallon over June RBOB gasoline due to the shutdown ofthe gasoline-producing fluidic catalytic cracking unit at TesoroCorp's 120,000 bpd Anacortes, Washington, refinery.
May CARB diesel strengthened in the Los Angeles and SanFrancisco markets due to the refinery problems. In L.A., CARBdiesel climbed 1.5 cents to 2.75 cents a gallon over June NYMEXheating oil. In the Bay, CARB diesel climbed 7 cents to a 5-centpremium over June heating oil.
Diesel in Portland rose 1 cent to 7 cents a gallon over JuneNYMEX heating oil.
