TechMARK movers: US contract for AEA

Wed, 24th Feb 2010 15:25
Energy consultancy AEA Technology has won a $45.7m contract from the US Department of Energy. The contract lasts for three years but can be extended through two one-year options. AEA's US subsidiary, which was acquired in 2008, was awarded the contract. The contract involves the initiative to reduce industrial energy intensity by 25% over the next decade. AEA will work with "DOE staff to integrate and coordinate the Save Energy Now Technical Assistance with the mission and broader activities of the DOE Industrial Technologies Program and other DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy programmes". Shares in Logica fell in price even though the IT services provider produced results broadly in line with expectations. Investors have taken more notice of the comment that revenues are expected to fall in the first half and be flat for the year as a whole. If anything, there were some pleasant surprises in the 2009 numbers. Revenues of £3.7bn were slightly higher than market average forecasts. Pre-tax profits fell to £42.6m from £43.8m as one-off charges jumped to £117.5m from £92.3m. Net debt of £291m was well below expectations. Orders were 4% higher than one year ago. Even so, there is limited scope for upgrades. Panmure Gordon forecasts an improvement in earnings per share from 11.9p to 12.8p in 2010.
