Fastjet Passenger Numbers Up As It Enters Talks For Fifth Aircraft

Tue, 09th Jun 2015 07:21

LONDON (Alliance News) - Fastjet PLC Tuesday said its Tanzanian operations flew 65,1128 passengers in May, up 52% from 42,977 a year earlier, although its load factor fell slightly to 70% from 71%, and it's also in talks to add a fifth plane to its growing fleet.

For the rolling 12 months to the end of May, the expanding African low-cost carrier flew 716,350 passengers, up from 407,908 in the previous 12 months.

Fastjet also said it has added flights on the busy Dar es Salaam to Mwanza route, as well as an extra weekly flight linking Dar es Salaam with both Lusaka and Harare, ahead of the summer season.

Fastjet last month leased a fourth aircraft for its fleet, an Airbus A319, and said Tuesday it is currently being re-painted and reconfigured. I can also confirm that discussions are underway with potential suppliers to deliver our 5th aircraft," Chief Executive Ed Winter said.

Fastjet shares were down 0.1% at 113.18 pence early Tuesday.
