Dignity Welcomes UK CMA Report On Funeral And Crematoria Market Probe

Fri, 18th Dec 2020 10:29

(Alliance News) - Dignity PLC on Friday welcomed the release of the Final Decision Report by the UK Competition & Markets Authority regarding its investigation into the country's funeral sector.

On Friday, the regulatory body said it continues to have serious concerns about the funeral sector, stating funeral directors and crematorium operators need to disclose prices more clearly and let customers know pricing in advance. It also called for the UK government to launch inspections to monitor the quality of funeral director services.

The report concluded that the CMA should consider whether a further investigation of the sector is needed when conditions are more stable, after the Covid-19 pandemic has been brought under control

On Friday, funeral services provider Dignity noted it has engaged with the regulator since the investigation first was announced in 2018, as it indicated support for the recommendation to government for quality and standards regulation.

"In the months ahead, we look forward to working with the regulator and the government to ensure the package of remedies work for consumers, and that they are implemented effectively across the market," said Executive Chair Clive Whiley.

Shares in Dignity were trading 4.6% lower at 647.62 pence each on Friday morning in London.
