Hi all,
New to the investing world here! (so I apologise if I come off clueless lol!!) Been following this site for the last 6/7 months aswell as using other researching tools just trying to gain as much information as I possibly can before biting the bullet and making my first investment.
I am hoping to hold for the med/long term when investing. Is there anything that anyone can recommend on what to look at when it comes to a stock aswell as which website/tool to use when it comes to researching stocks?
I've seen some people post links but they get removed unfortunately which is a shame for me lol.
Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

POET Technologies (TSXV:PTK) (NASDAQ:POET) — Powering the Next Generation of Everything
POET Technologies is commercializing now with a breakthrough technology that delivers needed improvements in speed, size and performance for the semiconductor and optoelectronics industry.
An industry that has struggled to find a reliable and cost-efficient solution to achieving higher speeds of data transfer can now use POET’s proprietary Optical Interposer™ to architect 400G, 800G, 1.6Tbps and 3.2Tbps pluggable transceivers. The Optical Interposer™ has been called “a work of art” by one semiconductor pioneer.
In the near term, POET promises to spark the development of innovative ideas that can transform multi-billion-dollar industries. High-speed networks for cloud service providers and data centers will be among the first adopters of POET’s platform that makes the Internet faster. Using light to speed the flow of data, POET provides customers with the tools needed to solve latency issues, increase the volume of files capable of being transferred, and eliminate aggravating bottlenecks.
Telecom and artificial intelligence businesses will also be among the early customers to commercialize POET products with light sources for Artificial Intelligence accelerator chips, sensing platforms for wearables and medical tech, LiDAR solutions for automated driving, hardware for Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and improvements for AR/VR to follow.
Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, and with operations in Allentown (Pennsylvania), Shenzhen (China) and Singapore, POET Technologies has created a solution that provides up to 40% lower cost for its customers and a 75% reduction in the size and lowers energy consumption compared to competing legacy solutions. POET seamlessly integrates electronics and photonics devices into a single chiplet that allows the industry to upgrade bandwidth and speed without overhauling existing infrastructure.
Using advanced wafer-level semiconductor manufacturing techniques and packaging methods, the Optical Interposer™ eliminates costly components and labour-intensive assembly, alignment, burn-in and testing methods employed in conventional photonics.
POET expects demand for its innovative integration and packaging solutions to grow steadily as the industry recognizes the inherent value of POET’s approach. The company is prepared to meet that demand through a joint venture established with industry giant Sanan Integrated Circuits in Xiamen, China, a subsidiary of Sanan Optoelectronics. Super Photonics, the joint venture company, employs dozens of engineers and includes state-of-the-art equipment ready to hit mass production targets. POET expects customer orders to begin in early 2023 and continue to build as more purchase orders are placed, and the customer roster increases. It plans to perform live demos of its latest products at the OFC 2023 Conference in San Diego (March 7-9).

Jam 1579, first off, I'd like to extend an apology in case I am suggesting you suck eggs or in any way denegrade others that might have commented in this thread.
After starting in the late 1970's I continue to build my portfolio (now into 7 figures) and I began to align it so that it lasts the remaining 30 or so years I have left in mortal existance. There are a number of things to take into account including risk. I will start with that. Not knowing how old you are, the received opinion is that with a timeframe under 1 year risk should be VERY cautious. Up to 10 years, medium risk and greater than 20 years, risk can be set to HIGH. And that is exactly where my portfolio is for me right now. So, you are looking for your first investment, eh?
Well it starts by understanding that the UK is in the doldrums and has underperformed the US for decades. The UK provides a pretty well assured 5% growth for your money for ever. And when compounded this will see your capital double every 17 years. That is the average. However, this has been based for the most part on traditional companies, ones that employ lots of people have a pool of products and operate around the world.
That is old school stuff and generate solid dividends to allow cash to accumulate for investment in tomorrows winners. What you want are tomorrows winners right now, isn't it? So where are the winners to be had? I genuinely don't know but I will have a bloody good stab for you.
I am putting or have put my money into IT, healthcare, traditional energy and India. IT has to be upgraded every year not just to cope with advances in technology but to use those technologies to run the world. It includes AI. Healthcare has mapped the genome sequence so the future is targetted medicines. Without diesel the world will starve. EV is fine in a city, but for the vast majority of the world if the tractor won't run, then no food is planted/harvested/transported etc. India will take over the manufacturing go-to for the world from China - an educated and growing population that wants the trappings of the west.
No idea if this will be helpful, but take losses early and run profits.

I would like to add a couple more words. Researching an area you are new to is a smart decision. True, when I hear the word research, I feel uneasy, since at the university I have to do this kind of written assignment. For example, I often use help literature review https://literaturereviewwritingservice.com/ Thanks to these authors, my grades are always good. Moreover, they keep my personal information secret from third parties, that is, they adhere to a strict privacy policy. For me, this is an important indicator of the reliability of a writing company. The conclusion is this: sometimes it’s worth turning to specialists if you don’t understand something.

I completely understand your anxiety and desire to gather as much information as possible before making your first investment. It's important to dive into your research and understand the fundamentals and technicals of the stocks you're considering. One approach is to look for companies with strong financials and steady growth. It is also worth paying attention to the industry and general economic conditions.
When it comes to research tools, I like to recommend not only traditional financial sites but also academic resources. For example, https://mypaperdone.com/student offers a variety of help to students and young investors who want to deepen their knowledge in economics, finance, and investments. They can provide you with customized research papers or help with the analysis of specific market trends, which will significantly deepen your understanding of the market. Arm yourself with knowledge and you will find your way to successful investing.
